Signed first edition, first printing hardcover copy of Son of the Gamblin’ Man: The Youth of an Artist by Mari Sandoz (Clarkson N. Potter, 1960). Historical fiction novel telling the mostly true story about the gambler and artist, Robert Henri who founded Conrad, NB and had an incredibly unique life. Henri would eventually teach art and write one of the most important books on art appreciation and education, The Art Spirit. A very rare book made more special by the author’s signature on front endpaper. Jacket is protected in archival sleeve but has some wear around the edges including chipping, creases and small tears. Fading to jacket spine. All pages are clean and unmarked though tanned. Binding is strong and spine is straight. Boards are clean with faint bumps to corners and spine ends. See photos for condition.
